A Sunny Monday Afternoon

            It is a beautiful Monday afternoon at City Park. It is sunny and the weather is warm. I am sitting on a large area of grass, next to big trees, with good companionship, my boyfriend.  We came here to enjoy this sunny afternoon and relax after a long day of class. We are sitting beneath a big tree, and on one of the tree’s branches, there is a dinosaur, a flying one, made of Christmas lights. Beside that same tree is a small lamppost.

At the moment, my boyfriend and I are talking. He is sitting on my left. A black dog is coming near him. The dog stops next to him and it starts to poop. The dog’s owner is getting embarrassed and screaming excuses. It is not a good thing to see and it is also an embarrassing situation, but we laughed at it. Sometimes embarrassing things happen!

            On our right, there is a seat. A woman just arrived with a crying baby and she sat down. She is trying to make him stop crying, so she put a pacifier in his mouth. The baby stopped crying, so the woman continued on her way and left the seat. The seat is in front of several trees, such as coconut and palm trees.

In front of us, there is a stream which has many ducks in it. Out of all of them, I like the duck with the green neck the most. It is cute and I remember that I have seen it in many movies. While I look at the stream, two girls are passing in a paddle boat and they are singing. Behind the two girls, there is an old woman rowing a kayak. In the middle of the stream, there is an average size of land that seems like a small island, with a red barn on it. Beside it, there is a small red tower that looks like a lighthouse. In front of the red barn, there is a man and he is fishing.  Beyond the small island, there is a piece of wood that is hosting three turtles which are sunbathing. Directly behind the little island, if you follow the course of the stream, there is a bridge. Across the bridge, there is a cafe where people are drinking coffee and eating beignets. 

To my left, there is a tree. I can see in front of it some flowers and butterflies that are landing on them. Behind my boyfriend and I, there is a rail road and towards it, there is an open area covered with grass where there is a couple playing with children. Between the rail road and us, there is a large sidewalk where people are walking, running and riding bicycles.

Above us doves are flying in the blue sky. It is a really pretty day which all types of people left their homes to come out to enjoy. When I asked some people why they came here, they told me that they came here to relax, exercise, see green landscape,  feel near to the nature and even enjoy this amazing outdoor with their friends, family and lovers.

This park is probably an old urban park, made for the community entertainment. For sure this place offers something for everyone, just as it is offering us a good, fun, and memorable Monday afternoon.
